Bathtime Routine

Mason is so smart. Here he is at bathtime {notice how he gets tickled looking at the camera at the beginning...cracks me up!}.

He knows that bathtime means he's supposed to:

  • turn the tub over and move it under the running water...
  • then he checks the water temperature to make sure it's comfortable...
  • he wets his washrag and squeezes excess water out...
  • and then when the tub is filled he takes his rinsing pail and fills that up too.

PS Yes, the camera adds 10...errr 20 lbs.

Dancing with the Stars

Mommy Confession:

Ok, so don't call the Mommy Police, but I often wheel Mason into the living room for suppertime and we have TV dinners {awful I know, but not bad enough or I suppose I would have stopped this by now}. It's typically more for my benefit as Mason can take 30-45 minutes grazing at his dinner plate {and I don't necessarily want to buy a TV for the kitchen...again, awful I know}.

I've noticed that Mason enjoys both music and dancing...particularly fast-paced music. Last night I caught him doing the Egyptian head-bob, waving his right arm in the air while watching Dancing with the Stars. HILARIOUS!

{Did you notice he's got rhythm already!?!}

Social Butterflies

Alright babies, toddlers, and mommies galore, Mr. Mason is now prepared to exercise his social skills at playdates- and we'd love to hang with you!

Check out these adorable playdate calling cards I had personalized from Sarah + Abraham {Olligraphic line}.

How cute are these? Now I really want Mason to learn to drink from a waterbottle stat...so I can get him a personalized one of course.
P.S. The non-edited-real-life cards have our last name, cell phone, and e-mail address {but I don't want to further encourage stalkers OR identity thieves, so I'll have to leave that part off!} Also, I thought about making Mason an ollie baby...but sadly remembered he's a toddler and should likely be standing on the cards{*sigh*}.

The Boy

So don't let the fact that my child is beautiful...
Plays in the kitchen...
And occassionally wears Mommy's shoes...
Fool you into thinking otherwise... He's ALL BOY!

My little dude likes to flex his {commonly known as} Boy Skills. He was quite the engineer with the elephant sorter Auntie Jamie gave him:
And he is to be left undisturbed during his never-ending-love of Baby Einstein {couch potato!}:
{yes, for those who wonder, that IS a Bumbo seat. are you jealous of my petite Mister yet? =) }
Oh and he's quite the Ladies Man too!

Mighty Warrior

You can make bugs out of gourds.
You can make a castle out of cardboard.
And you can make a warrior out of a toddler...just by giving him a yard stick:

Holy Molar!

Mason ate my camera.

Last Wednesday, when the cardboard castle was under construction, I made the horrible mistake of distracting Mason with, "Here's something with buttons to keep you occupied" and handed him the digital camera.

He ate it.

And subsequently, the extending lens and shutter were bitten into and fell apart. Sorry Aunt BeeBee...I know you gave us that camera, I had no idea M would take a bite out of it! We have an old Fuji, but it's about 3 or 4 times the size and the video camera feature doesn't work as well. The good news is that this incident helped confirm my decision to NOT buy a fancy schmancy camera {unless I can get cheapo accidental insurance coverage!}. So this is why I'm lagging in posting for both Mason's journal AND my Gypsy Soul blog...

We had visitors this weekend. Aunt Mary, Uncle Josh, Baby Sophie, and Uncle Sean stayed the night Saturday and Sunday.
Here's 5.5 wk-old Baby Sophie and Mommy.
Mason was absolutely tickled to get to see his cousin, Aunt, and Uncles. He's cheesing it up here with Uncle Sean.
Lunch after church.
Mason was terribly loud all throughout lunch. He's happy, but I'm warning anyone that ever asks us out for dinner, that he'll inevitably try to gain the entire facility's attention by yelling/singing/laughing as loud as he can.
And then Sunday, in the middle of his afternoon nap, he woke up screaming. I had decided to take a nap too and made a pallet next to his crib (my bed was coated with clothes I was hanging up). Why on earth was my usually happy guy so fussy?HOLY MOLAR

He's been cutting his bottom right molar for months, but check out how extraordinarily swollen that sucker is! The gums have turned purple and to feel the mound, it's terribly squishy. To put the size in perspective, look at the size of one of his nostrils...the swollen area is BIGGER!
He wouldn't take a teething toy or bottle at this point so I tried to soothe him with Baby Orajel and teething tablets.
My poor little dude finally calmed down. {look how handsome he is...even if he's been sobbing for 20 minutes!}
And he took a bottle...
We said "Goodbye" to the family super early this morning. Mason actually cried when everyone was saying "Bye Bye." I honestly think he was sad to see them go- his cognitive skills amaze me.

PS I realize I only have 1 photo of Baby Sophie; it seemed like everytime I broke the camera out she was sleeping. Sunday morning she was adorable in a sweet pink Petite Ami bubble suit with white eyelet Mary Jane shoes. Mary and Josh are just lucky I didn't babynap her while they were here =)

Silly Goose

Mason likes the air vent...Silly Goose!

He's clapping for himself because he's so proud for finding his new "toy"

And then when I laugh at him, he looks at me like,
"What Mommy? What's so funny?"

Ready for Spring Sports

How early am I supposed to get a little boy involved in sports?
Mason's already so active and he interacts with his peers {finally!}- he'll both throw and kick around a ball now. I'd like to foster his athletic abilities, but don't want to push anything on to him for fear of burn out. BUT I've heard of kids starting organized sports as young as 2-3 years-old.
This kid looks like he's already ready for some baseball or golf {tuck that shirt in!}
I'd project that his height will probably not allow for basketball and his size might limit him with football. I don't have a clue when it comes to sports anyhow. I suppose that's why I have so many questions on the topic. Maybe Mason won't want to be involved in sports at all. I guess I'll just have to wait and see!

Bromance

Yesterday was another gorgeous day and we were thrilled to have a playdate with C! Those silly boys enjoyed running around- here's M showing his "bromance" affection for C with a hug.
Those boys love the swings {sorry Leah, I cropped this weird- I was trying to rid of the random park-goers, cars & buildings in the background}
I didn't get a picture of it, but Mason tried his first Orange Dreamsicle...a hot sticky mess, but he enjoyed the sugary goodness. And while Leah was a good mommy who took 2 tiny licks and let C have the rest, I let my child test out a couple of times while I gobbled the rest. I justified that I'm monitoring Mason's refined sugar intake at this age {HA!}
Check out this face- I think I want to blow this one up and post it in my kitchen!

14-Months Old

At 14 Months-Old, Mason...

...is a silly mess. {like his country bumpkin overalls and crazy hair here} He is still into everything and is quick to discover the world around him.

...isn't necessarily a picky eater, BUT has become a difficult one. We go through a laborious process of me trying to get him to focus on eating. Sometimes he'll want to feed himself when I hold the spoon and other times he wants to play with his food or drop it on the ground. Not cool! He also likes to push food up his nose, in his ears, and always his hair. At some point here, I just gave in and styled a mohawk.
...has become a scientist, an engineer, and an inventor. He carefully studies cause and effect; rigs up elaborate obstacle courses with toys as hurdles; and creates new ways of using toys and/or taking everyday objects and making them toys.
...tears up my stuff.
...thinks it's funny to tear up my stuff. *sigh*

This month he's not really developed new gross motor skills {well, he can walk down the playground steps now without my help and figured out how to go down the slide on his tummy on his own} but socially he's blossomed within the past couple of weeks. There's not a shy bone in this kid's body! On the playground, he loves to go around to talk and hug people. At restaurants, he's very loud and chatty {in church too...which is why he was put in the nursery during 3/4 of the service Sunday}. And when we're out and about, he is big about looking people in the eye and being friendly.

I'm proud of him for being so outgoing and kind but I noticed when he is told "No" in a public setting that he tends to throw a bigger fit to show off. I think he may even be trying to flex his toddler attitude by showing that he's in charge and can do what he wants {is that possible at this early age?}.

BUT this is a fun age and I'm enjoying having a happy baby. His fake laughs, odd noises, Jabbernese {think: Japanese+baby jabbering= Jabbernese language} and silliness crack me up and bring a big smile to my face every day!

Winding Down with a {Milk} Nightcap

Around here "Winding Down" typically ends up with Mace being "wound up."

Tonight, after our usual bedtime routine beginnings {bathtime, short playtime, bottle, book, rocking/singing, crib.} Mason was particularly enthused as I asked him if he liked his milk nightcap shaken or stirred. There's something about the word "shaken" that tickled him so much he fell hitting his head on the tile BUT he was too busy laughing to even notice. This video is after the fall {notice the bonk on his noggin'} and he started to get a little fussy as I took his bottle away from him so I could record the silliness. But silly laughs still abound!

Quirky Mommy

I don't know why, but I like using my camera phone to take candid photos of Mace while he's sleeping. It's a weird quirky mom-thing but I love his little face and I even giggle a little when the flash jostles him slightly awake {check out the ones where he smiles}.

{Note: I don't ever sneak in and snap pictures while he's in his crib. I typically do it after he wakes me in the middle of the night and then I can't get back to sleep but find he's out like a light}

Easter 2010

This year I got excited because Mason Tinsley can understand so much more. I woke him up and told him about how Easter is a special celebration because our Lord is risen and God's love and grace is more than we can imagine. Then I dressed him like a little girl in a smocked bunny outfit. He'll really appreciate this when he's a teenager =)
I put together Easter packages for him and his Uncles... Uncle Batman and Uncle Sean were sweet to watch Mason after church so I could cook.

We had a lovely lunch too!
Happy Easter!
Then after we all took a nice afternoon nap. Mason had an Easter egg hunt at home.
And then since it was such a pretty day, we had to venture to the park...it was packed.
We had so much fun we closed the park out {stayed until it was dark!} It was a pretty cool day!
